Under the new EU Batteries Regulation, portable batteries and batteries in "light means of transport" (LMT), such as electric scooters and e-bikes, must be easily removable and replaceable, starting in 2027. To implement this requirement, the European Commission recently released a first draft of guidelines.
Two European umbrella associations representing the recycling and waste management industries say they support the issuance of the guidelines in principle.
